We have been in Tahiti since Monday and now expect to stay here through 11 May when we will be going back to the States for Chelsea's wedding. We are in a very nice marina just south of the airport and will leave the boat here while we are in the States. It seems that nearly half of the Rally boats are here also, the other boats are either at a small marina in the center of Papeete or are out of the water at a nearby boatyard for repairs.
We have made good progress with our own repairs: the engine is running fine with a new fuel filter, and the overheating generator is sitting on the dock while a new mounting bed is being fabricated. We have decided to take advantage of our additional time in Tahiti to complete as many of our "wish list" projects as possible using the skilled tradesmen which are available here.
We will likely spend one or two weeks at a nearby hotel which has a few apartments in addition to resort rooms. It will be nice to have a change of pace and also being off the boat will be helpful for the tradesmen. We plan to rent a car so that we can explore Tahiti more extensively.
There are a couple of Rally events planned for next week when all of the boats will be here. In addition to the prize giving for the recent leg we will all take a tour of the island by bus which will be helpful for planning our own sightseeing afterwards. The other boats will be departing late next week for Bora Bora but we will not leave from Tahiti until early June when we return from Cleveland. It will take us all of June to catch up with the Rally in Fiji.
