Samsara - smooth as glass...

April 8

We left Nuku Hiva at lunchtime on April 5, we were able to sail nicely for most of the day, since then the wind has steadily decreased and this morning we have a Pacific that is literally as smooth as glass. There is NO wind. Well we have 87 miles to go so we're just motoring along. I've read several novels, Lee has read a few magazines and is onto a challenging book that will take weeks, and the girls are doing lessons.

The water is beautiful, and the sky is beautiful, but some wind sure would be nice! Sunrise and sunset on the ocean are lovely, and the cloud formations all around are often really beautiful. Watching the sun descend and the moon rise is really quite stunning at sea. The colors of the clouds at sunrise and sunset are just beautiful, the sky often goes from blue, sort of a gray/blue, to light violet, to pink. A camera really can't do it justice.

We should arrive in the Tuamotus tomorrow. We must enter the anchorages during the day, preferably before noon, so we have the best view of the coral through the water. It's unlike the Marquesas where the water was very deep until the mountains rose almost directly from the sea. These are atolls with reefs around them. Navigating is a bit more precarious in the Tuamotus.

Off to find another novel to tackle and help the girls with their lessons.
