Samsara - check please...

April 3

We're enjoying our time in Nuku Hiva - we believe we've even come up with a way to jury rig the broken shroud until we get to Tahiti. Lee will make multiple trips up the mast tomorrow to work on this (he made two trips up today).

Tonight we went to dinner at a pizza place with the crew from Brizo. All went well and we enjoyed the meal. After a suitable amount of time, Lee asked for "two more beers and the check please" - in English - French is the language here. So - they promptly brought 2 beers and a jack (as in Jack Daniels) - Lee just looked at it for a minute until it registered "check" had become "jack"! Too funny. Luckily he likes Jack Daniels so we all enjoyed a good laugh!

So we did buy a few provisions today for the trip to the Tuamotus, we'll get some more fresh baguettes tomorrow and a few more items, possibly some boneless chicken breasts (we haven't seen those since Panama) and more bananas and some mangos...... Things are roughly 3 times the cost here compared to in the US - so for instance a dozen eggs is $5.

We might leave tomorrow or possibly Thursday for the roughly 500 mile journey to the next archipelago. We're not expecting a lot of wind for this trip so we plan to get some school work done on the crossing.

I did 3 loads of laundry today and with one more in the morning we will have all clean clothes for the trip. We also took a bag of clothing that the girls were finished with to the city hall for the island children. I packed way too many clothes and we are sorting through and giving away clothes that are still good and trashing those that are beyond hope.
