Day 6
Yesterday's sailing was excellent and we streaked along at 8 - 10 knots which has increased today to 10 -12 knots.
It being the owner's birthday we decorated Cattitude with balloons and banners while he was on watch on the flybridge, then as he descended the spiral staircase greeted him with Buck's Fizz and a rendition of "Happy Birthday" at 9am.
At 7pm we gathered on deck for canapés of quail's eggs and caviar and champagne, all attired in blazers and ties (men) and formal dress (ladies). We then sat down, as Cattitude flew along at 12 knots, to a three course dinner.
Menu: Scallops St. Jaques, slow cooked lamb shanks and veg followed by a stunning three layer birthday cake, baked on board. Very surreal, but that's catamaran life for you!!
We have now eaten dolphin fish using about six different methods. Flora, the cook, has exceeded in both skill and imagination to ring the changes at every meal.
Many of us on board were monohull purists until this trip, but when it comes to a choice between trying to use the loo with your feet braced up the wall, or being able to have a proper shower while underway, I'm not so sure any more!
Levelheaded
Some of us on Cattitude
Have done the ARC before
Monohullists one and all
We heeled from shore to shore
Headstands in the heads were norm
Cartwheels in the galley
But living on an even keel
Makes this a pleasant rally
Flying along at full 12 knots
Formal Dining was a thrill
All dressed up in finery
And no wine did we spill
The moral of this little tale
The point of this wee farce
It's better to be upright
Than flat upon your *!?@.
