Pajarito - Day 7 - Are we there yet?

No, we're not there yet. Not even close. The good news is, the wind has picked up to 15 kn. The bad news is, its coming from the direction we want to travel, SE. So we've been sailing due east for the past 24 hours. We're supposed to have a wind shift to the northeast this evening which would allow us to go south. But, reviewing the NWS Wind and Wave charts for tomorrow, we'll be lucky to get 5 kn winds from the southwest. Again, pushing us away from the direction we hope to travel.

We're getting pretty anxious to start making some southerly headway. And reluctant to travel much further east because of the low pressure system forming at 55 W latitude.

Speaking of low pressure system, we're paying very close attention to all possible weather forecasts to see if the low pressure system develops into a tropical storm. We're really, really hoping we don't have to practice storm tactics. Captain Bill rigged up a drogue, and we plan to set up a third reef in the mainsail just in case. We also have a storm sail which we may set up.

Other news, we had a very brisk sail eastward last night. It felt great to be sailing rather than wallowing again. But still not much progress toward our destination. If the winds cooperate, we could be in the BVI by Tuesday or Wednesday next week. Let's hope so.

Yours wondering, if we're not there yet, then when?

- the Pajarito Crew, Captain Bill, Bob, and Deidre
