Crazy Horse - Nov.21, 2010

Matt did a good job explaining the wild time we had trying to go around the Cape of Good Hope the first time on Friday in the midst of all the challenges of breakdowns and bad weather. However, we made it safely into the harbor of Simonstown and had a wonderful time there on Sat., my birthday. This was a Bay right off the tip of the Cape that is used by many a sailor for a harbor out of the storms. I won't go into that again. But when we didn't make it around the Cape the first time I thought our plans for going home were dashed again. We were all a little frustrated, disappointed, and exhausted. But it all worked out and we all learned a big lesson through the whole experience. Don't underestimate the weather around the Cape. All the stories about the harsh conditions are not exaggerated. One must wait for the perfect conditions to make the trip around. Today was a different experience. WE MADE IT! We made it around the Cape of Good Hope and into Capetown. Our excitement was extreme when we made it into port in Capetown at CTBI. We meet a wonderful young couple on Salty Dog and a Frenchman named Joseph who is circumnavigating alone. It is just so amazing that every port we arrive in we meet such friendly and helpful people. They helped us get to the right dock and tie up since the staff was off for the weekend.

Our flight home is on for tomorrow. We should be able to get a cab from the dock and make it there on time. We leave at midnight so we have all day tomorrow to pack up the boat , clean, and get us ready for the flight home. This is a little last minute but sometimes that is the way our family does things. Right down to the wire.

So Ocean Jasper made it into port at Capetown too. They showed up in the harbor a little after us and were sights for sore eyes. We all went out to dinner and had a celebration of our success around the Cape. Tomorrow we will bid our friends goodbye until our return after Christmas. They will have a great experience here learning about all that is special here in Capetown. It is a beautiful city with lots to do. When we return in Jan. hopefully we will do some sightseeing. All the work we have done to get here certainly makes it worth the effort to have some time to explore our surroundings.

We will try to update the blog as soon as possible. Take care and have a good holiday.
