A Lady - Sailing around the World ( presently in Richards Bay , South Africa )

MONDAY   8th  NOVEMBER     2010

We woke up to the lovely sound of birds chirping in the trees around us,  These birds turned out to be " Weaver birds " and their nests were so unusual, like a round ball of weaved grasses about 6" in diamater with an entrance hole from underneath and hanging from the branches by a long weaved thread,  there must have been about a hundred birds in the nearest tree to us alone.  It was all wonderfull .

We went ashore to the yacht club for a big fry up, including red beans,, yum, yum. Of course the crews from the other boats were all there as well.

12,00hrs Ben ( from the Y.C. ) drove Skipper and Aileen to the airport to collect a rent a car, all this took about an hour and then we returned to the boat, packed our bags and drove to " Durban," about 120 km south of Richards Bay. We booked ourselves into a Hotel for the night, and it was so reasonable in comparison to home, as was the rent a car. Skipper is still taking anti inflamitories for the pain in his right hip. ( thinking it is a left over from the Kidney stone op. )

Terry, Collette and Neil remained at the Yacht club and had a good day, meeting all sorts of yachties and live aboard guys ( mostly ). Its amazing how many people live permenantly on their boats in the southern hemisphere compared to the northern hemisphere.and most of these boats seem to be built of steel,

18.00hrs There was a BBQ at the yacht club, bring your own food , and if not you could buy a food package with meat and sausages, bread and lettuce for the equivelant of 3 euros. They had a ball. Meanwhile back in Durban, S & A had dinner in the hotel and was equally good value.  We were advised not to go anywhere outside the hotel, especially at night.  Just tooo dangerous.

Welcome to South Africa.

That all for today.

Signed :-  Stephen Hyde   ( Skipper )
