Cleone - Fw: CLEONE Leg 17 Day 2 - Waves

CLEONE Leg 17 Day 2 - Waves

Fast sailing, but not very comfortable.

So much so, that the Skipper has decided to move from the Saloon to the aft cabin.  When you are on the port tack and rolling as much as we are, the port side bunks are on the up-hill side of the boat.  In theory, the lee cloth will hold your body comfortably in place, but in practice its utility runs out at some point.  Before the gunwhale (gunnle) goes under, anyone in the upwind berth finds himself lying on the edge of the bunk.  Whilst this is suitably rounded and varnished, even with the protection of the cushion, it is a hard edge, and when you get dumped on it by the action of a wave, it is as good as an alarm clock, and much more painful.  So, despite a resultant feeling of isolation, the Skipper has deposited himself in the down-wind bunk of the aft cabin.  Rest is once more assured, but we all need to be more alert as a result.

The good news is that along with the rest of the fleet, we are being swept nicely towards our destination.  The first milestone has passed as we have less than 2000 miles to go - we made over 170 miles in the second 24 hours of this leg.  If we can maintain this pace (which I doubt) we will be in Port Louis in a fortnight or so, which would be great.  But we will let you know how things go!

It's been classic trade-wind sailing.

All well with us, and best wishes to everyone,
