American Spirit II - Day 442; A Slow Day in Grenada; Tuesday, March 24, 2015

One year ago today:

"Day 80; Bank; Air Tahiti; Hair Cuts; Provisioning; and Bottom Job; Monday, March 24, 2014. At 8:30 AM boarded shuttle organized by Rally for ride into town. Went to bank to exchange dollars for francs. Exchange rate 80 to 1. Mike went to Air Tahiti and booked flight from Nuku Hiva to Tahiti for April 3rd, the first day that flights are available from the Marquesas to Tahiti. Still on 'wait list' for flight from Hiva Oa to Tahiti this week. If doesn't get on flight, then will have to change Friday flight from Tahiti to USA and reschedule for the week of April 3. Behind the Air Tahiti person dealing with Mike was a picture on the wall of two Polynesian females. Their clothing was limited above the waist. Something like that would be a big EEOC problem in the US. Similar type of drawing in the restaurant we ate in for lunch."

Up at 8:00 AM. Breakfast: eggs, bacon, potato and chilled pineapple slices.

At 9:00 AM Jeanine, Vlado and I go to Immigration/Customs to sort out Jeanine's leaving the country. The Immigration guy doesn't arrive until 10:00 AM. Island Time. The Immigration agent said that Jeanine needed to have a flight out of St. Vincent & the Grenadines or else they might not let her into the country. Jeanine also has a possible ride on a big cabin cruiser, but that vessel has mechanical problems and probably won't be ready to sail for a few days. We're back on the boat by 10:25 AM.

At 11:00 AM I drive to Island World Chandlery to buy some items for the boat. Derry from Avocet accompanies me. One of the items I buy is a book titled 'Snorkeling Guide To Marine Life Florida/Caribbean/Bahamas.' One of the pictures showed the eel that Heidi and Joel had seen snorkeling. It is called a 'Goldspotted Eel;' is 1-1/1/2 feet in length, with a maximum length of 3 1/2 feet; and has bright gold spots with black borders on its body and head. Looking at the picture, it looks more like Heidi's description of cream colored with brown spots.

While I'm away Joel shored up the wood/fiberglass around the rudder post with some hardware materials we purchased; and then loaded pictures and video on his blog.

At 4:40 PM Joel, Jeanine and I departed for the Movie Palace to see 'Seventh Son,' in 3D, a witch and dragon movie staring Jeff Bridges. I'd give it 2 stars out of 4; an entertaining diversion. The movie started at 5:00 PM on time, and with no previews. First time I can remember never seeing previews before a movie. Like other movie theaters around the world, you can get popcorn, but not not butter/popcorn.

After the movie we went to The Timbers restaurant again, and all 3 of us ordered Lobster and corn-on-the-cob. A very good meal; or as Jeanine would say, 'fabulous!'

We're back at the boat around 9:00 PM, where Vlado and Lupo from Civetta II joined us for a glass of wine.

In place of my I Phone I was able to us my local SIM card phone to send and receive text messages to the US.

In bed at 10:30 PM.

Brian Fox
