Aretha - Day 5 - In Colombian Waters - 12 27 North 72 06 West

Another beautiful day at sea.

What’s been great

- Beautiful downwind sailing - lovely and warm with flat calm conditions during the day

- We’re now into Colombian waters (thanks Nick & Paul for spotting the misspelling of Colombia on the last despatches)

- Caroline and Nichola have been great getting the schooling moving along again today

- Great food all day by Nichola, Caroline & Bluebell

- Stunning sunset and great being back under so many stars tonight

What’s been more challenging

- Kids seem to have been whining or moaning all day long. Suspect its the heat and getting used to being back at sea.

- Things need fixing. Generator still challenging despite 4 hours working on this. Cars on the mainsail track working loose and need tighetning

- Short on sleep - last night I spent a good part of the night on watch dodging ships with Nichola & Caroline

- Lost our #1 fishing lure earlier. Massive take which stripped off 200 metres of line in about a minute. This fish was really motoring. Just as I had furled the headsail and was ready for action, it managed to cut through the 100lb trace line.

- Slower progress today - less current with us and this evening it’s very rock and roll as we just have the main out (we need to gybe the spinnaker pole over when we have all 3 of us in deck

It’s interesting to note that this is our second longest passage at sea (the Atlantic was the longest at 18 days) totalling an estimated 8 days. Nichola and the kids are sailing it without batting an eyelid - it all seems very natural.

It’s also great to note that we’ve not had a whiff of mal de mer on board Aretha since leaving Grenada (hopefully I’m not tempting fate).

Final note of interest - 12 degrees North is the furthest North we will be for quite some time - well until we head back up the Atlantic again next year.

Have a super day everyone.

Team Aretha Out.
