Exody - Day 20- November 29th - Flying Fish Attack

Good still to have company with Paroya's sails visible abeam at daybreak - and still on the horizon at sunset - she has pulled ahead steadily under her main and genny to our genny and yankee- but we are still happy not to have a mainsail hoisted.

On watch last night Kathy took a direct hit on the back from a flying fish about 25 cm long - yes we do have an aft cockpit boat with fairly low freeboard - instead of keeping it for breakfast she forgave it and returned it to the waves.

Just three days ago five knots was a serious disappointment but it's now the new 'must reach' target and as night falls we are pleasingly up to 5.5 knots with 16 knots of easterly wind directly astern - its been down at 12-14 knots most of the day - so a slowish but very pleasant day - only 118 miles noon to noon - sea almost flat compared to the rolly times we have had - We have missed most squalls for about three days now and the the cloudy skies cleared today to give superb visibility.

Tony made a great lentil/rice salad from limited supplies at lunchtime and reckons such concoctions delivered back at home base may help him earn back the considerable points lost by coming sailing with us for 5 weeks. The menus now become a little more challenging with fresh fruit and veg down to: limes - so Marian has had to make 1.5 lires of rum punch to use them up; a few potatoes (corned beef hash again ?); stacks of onions, one tomato and half a carrot. Its my turn on the dinner rota tonight so canned/packaged creativity reigns.

Finally we seem to be on top our volts today and reckon the towing generator needs to be out full time - and we will just have to take the hit on 'no fishing' and slight speed loss.
