OOROO1 - Preparations and a Wild Night
So with 4 hours to go,
Las Palmas has really turned on some weather. 40 knot winds over night and 38
knots this morning with rain and 4m waves. The start has been postponed 18
hours. Storm sail was delivered during the week which should allow us to sail
overnight without changing sails. We are all provisioned up now with the last
minute fruit and vegies delivered yesterday. All washed and dried on the
trampoline in record time between squalls to get rid of the . We now have a
stork of bananas hanging / swinging off the back of the boat with about 80
bananas along with a stack of onions and all our carrots wrapped in foil. After
living on the boat for 10 days we have our sea legs but Jeno and Tess started
Travacarm yesterday and are hoping for the best (but expecting to be hanging
over the side of the boat for a while). We will be on 3 hour shifts during the
night watching out for ships, whales, floating objects, squalls and aliens !! We
came third in the rock art competition. Prize was a platter of different meats
and cheeses. Just what we don’t need with full fridges but the boys will devour
it. Yellow Brick has been installed so should be able to track us once we
actually start.
All well on
board. No weight loss has occurred yet but we are alcohol free for the whole
time at sea so here’s hoping
.
