American Spirit II - Day 286; New Auto Pilot Installed, a Visit to a Grocery Store & Dinner with Folie a Deux at an Indian Restaurant; Saturday, October 18, 2014

Jeremy and Joel beat me up today (got up before me, no physical violence). I got up at 8:10 AM. After coffee breakfast followed: ham eaten with BBQ sauce and pita bread; chilled fruit cocktail; and breakfast crackers. I haven't made it to the grocery store yet, so no eggs and potatoes.

Our laundry was delivered during breakfast by Rashid. We picked up 3 very hot panties that didn't belong to us; and Jeremy was short 3 pairs of shorts, two black and one blue; plus we're missing one pillow case and one very expensive 1/2 V-Berth fitted sheet. I walked the dock talking to most of the boats with females on board looking for someone to own up to the panties, but no luck so far. Maybe if we haul them up on a halyard on the boat someone will recognized them...Not!

After breakfast we put the laundry away; and then made the beds. Making the bed in the aft cabin is not easy and usually takes a while. A BIG project. Then Joel put the Rally flag up while I was putting together a shopping list for groceries. Next Joel and Jeremy worked on trying to diagnose the problem with our router. Its toast. I believe that poop wave number 4, which I saw and which tore thru the transom, knocked our router out of commission. Without the antennae, we're limited in our internet more so than we would be with it.

Jeremy departed to the outdoor, upscale mall next to the marina at 12:30 PM; and Joel started dismantling the auto pilot hydraulic RAM at 1:00 PM. He plugged in the new one before taking the old one apart. To do this he had to empty the hidden hold and port cockpit locker.

At 1:30 PM I took a cab to a grocery store to buy some essentials: eggs, bread, fruit, junk food, potatoes, and a few other items. I returned about 3:30 PM, and was somewhat shocked when the cab driver told me how much the fare was. 1,600 Rupee or about $55.00. For $88.00 in groceries. Fumble. Next time I take a cab I'll ask and negotiate the fare first. Like I usually do but I forgot to this time.

Back at the boat I helped Joel set up the new auto pilot hydraulic arm by turning the navigation on and off and changing the settings on the auto pilot. It was problematic at first, but after switching some wires around Joel got the system working properly. We hope and think. We won't really know until we leave the wharf and test the new auto pilot.

At 6:00 PM we picked up Folie a Deux and went to dinner with them at a nearby Indian restaurant. Dinner was great, and we had the restaurant all to ourselves.

Back at the boat at 9:00 PM we watched the first episode of a new HBO series called True Detective that my brother David had dropped off when he visited the boat in Darwin. I fell asleep at the ending, so I may have to watch the ending again before going on to the second episode.
