American Spirit II - Day 102; Trip to Passe de Avatoru, Stephen's Dive in Passe de Avatoru, Beach Party and Getting Ready to Depart; Tuesday, April 15, 2014

Rain squall at 4:04 AM. High winds. Had to close hatches to keep rain out.

Up at 7:00 AM; and took Stephen to Top Dive in dingy at 7:50 AM. Once back at the boat at 8:10 AM put laundry up to dry on life lines.

Stephen's dive trip to Passe de Avatoru was eventful, as he saw and swam with 4 dolphins, a 6 -7 foot silver tip shark and a school of barracuda. Stephen mentioned to his dive guide that we were planning the other night to do a night snorkel of The Aquarium, and he (the guide) indicated that really big sharks come into the pass and The Aquarium area, even the 'shallow' side of The Aquarium; and that subsequently going into the water there would be dangerous. He also said To Dive didn't do night dives because of the liability involved.

At 10:55 AM Christoph and Dagmar from Flomaida II came by to discuss with Joel their boat's electrical problem.

At 11:15 AM I went with Sheldon and Ness from Nexus to the post office at Passe de Avatoru. It took about 20 minutes to get there in their large dingy (really, a motor boat). Once there we visited the post office, I bought some pop corn in the grocery store, and in the process we walked by a large grade school where the children were outside in the playground. Very noisy. What surprised me was that they were not dressed in uniforms, as the children are in the Bahamas.

For lunch, Joel, Stephen and I went to the grill next to Top Dive, where they had grilled mahi mahi and I had a hamburger. Good food. And for only the second time in 3 months, I had coffee ice cream (for dessert). With whipped cream and a chocolate stick.

Too a nap from 4:00 PM to 4:40 PM, then off to another Beach Party at 5:00 PM. Six or seven boats participated. While at the party we saw 6 guys take out a large pontoon type boat to race around the anchorage; another native approached us and said that it he'd know and we'd talked to him, that he would have arranged a pig roast for us; and a third person, a lady from the UK and France, who was a head mistress at an island boarding school, told us that a passenger ship/freighter was coming in to the island tomorrow. We departed the party at 7:30 PM.

Once back at the boat we deflated the dingy, 'cleaned up' the cabin, and put stuff away that was under the dodger. We also transferred 30 gallons from 6 jerry jugs into the main fuel tank.

Dinner at 8:40 PM consisted of freeze dried Chicken Alfredo, chilled, white fruit in syrup, and French bread.

After dinner we watched the first half of the movie McCarthur, starring Gregory Peck. Not a very good movie.

Lights out at 10:30 AM.
