Firefly - On passage to Ua Pou

After a couple of days in Tahuata we have set sail today on the 60 NM passage to Ua Pou. We left at 6.00AM in the hope that we make the trip in daylight. The wind from the East is blowing us along at almost 8 knots so we should make it in good time. We continue to be spoilt for places to visit. For the last two days we have enjoyed some spectacular anchorages in Tahuata first at Bai Hanatefau a steeply enclosed bay with a village at one end then Bai Hanamoena a more isolated, open bay lined in Palm trees with golden sand. This is the first proper sandy beach we have visited and reported by the pilot guide to be one of the best in Polynesia.

We are heading for Bai d'Hakahau the largest settlement on Ua Pou where 1000 people live. With luck there will be a bakery and general stores to stock up on French Bread (for Paul and David) and coke (for us all)the sunsets are not the same without a rum and coke in your hand!Surprisingly rum stocks are holding out.

Paul, David and Peter
