American Spirit II - Day 43; Janet Fox Arrives!; Saturday, February 15, 2014

Up early. Another sea lion on the boat transom. He jumped off once he heard me afoot.

Left for the airport at 9:00 AM to meet Janet's plane from mainland Ecuador. She had been traveling since 3:30 PM the day before and had spent Thursday night in the airport in Guayahill (a city on the coast. I know the spelling is wrong). In texting Janet, she indicated that she was in queuing hell, and didn't know if she'd get done in time to make the flight. If you've never stood in lines in South American airports, you haven't lived! Her plane touched down close to on time, and then Janet was back in a que again. In order to make sure that Janet didn't miss me at the airport exit, I held a sign that said 'Janet Fox.' When in Rome... And I use the term 'airport exit' loosely. Its a set of double doors where people flood out like the sluice gate in a dam.

After collecting Janet, we started walking to the port as there were no taxis available. On the way I flagged one down, and 10 minutes later we had boarded a water taxi to the boat.

Joel had picked up our third and final bag of laundry at noon and met us at the boat. We then went back to town, and had lunch. Had lunch with the crew of another boat (Tim, Tracy, Brian and Lucy). The service was very slow (poor), and the hamburger Janet ordered was still moving on the plate (not cooked enough).

After lunch we went back to the boat for a siesta from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM, then in to town again for dinner at the Calypso restaurant, where we had pizza and garlic bread. The service was the best we had had since leaving the USA on January 4. And the food was very good, also. I suspect we'll be eating at this restaurant again.

Played Rummie back on the boat, with Janet wining 3 games; and Darlene and Joel 1 each. I won zero. A political rally in town was still going on, with a speaker talking and occasionally music was played. This speaker was still speaking at 2:00 AM Sunday morning. Hard to believe.

Lights out 11:00 PM. Big day tomorrow. Taking a boat to Kicker Rock to swim with hammerhead sharks, turtles and manta rays.
