Koala - Dec 16th: Are we nearly there yet?

Well, yes, thank you very much for asking... All being well, we are expecting to get to Rodney Bay early on Wednesday morning. Which is great news. This last few days have been pretty tough. Mainly because of squalls. It is very difficult in squally conditions to set the right amount of sail. Particularly with the main sail, as to take in a reef involves rounding up into the wind. This is not pleasant in 13ft swells and 8 ft waves that we have at the moment and usually involves a soaking. If you do not reef and get caught out by a squall, that is also not good. I had an interesting 20 minutes a couple of nights ago where I was standing behind the wheel heading straight down wind with a 3 reefed main up in 40+ knots of breeze and in front of the boat, I could see nothing apart from lashing rain and the bow wave of the boat coming up as high as the guard rails on either side!

So the next night, we went with just a headsail, which was slower, but much more relaxing. I think we are going to do the same again tonight as if we push along faster at the moment, all that is going to happen is that we will arrive in the middle of the night.

Cuisine in these swells has taken a back seat. There is a 50-50 chance whether you end up eating it or wearing it when staggering around in the galley. I may even have been heard to swear on occasion. Last night was beer, peanuts and supernoodles. Tonight is going to be beer, peanuts and corned beef hash.

Anyway, the countdown continues. Second to last sundowner coming up... (fingers crossed!)
