Firefly - Less than 100 miles to English Harbour

Back to sunny skies, slightly calmer seas and around 20 knots of wind as we rock and roll the last part of our voyage. Yesterday was the roughest of our trip, with winds around 35 knots, and 5 metre waves, some with breaking crests and many unpleasantly steep. The day ended with 2 reefs in the main and the jib reefed down to resemble a pocket handkerchief, with a squall of heavy rain soaking us as we put the reefs in! Firefly handled the conditions well and apart from a couple of broaches in particularly steep waves, we all came through the day safely. Even Murray's pasta bake stayed safely in the pan in the oven!

After over 19 days at sea, we are all looking forward to this evening to hurry sundown to a night at anchor, and a stationary shower followed by a few drinks tomorrow (as we shall probably arrive around midnight). We will for sure manage a celebratory drink on arrival and although the beer has long gone we do have the bottle of Talisker whisky, donated by Graham, Dave and Paul's other friends at Gooch and Housego, Torquay - thanks guys. Signs of the nearness of dry land, such as floating weed and more sea birds are all being noted with excitement!

Paul , Murray, Peter and Grateful(looking forward to a level perch - or a pirate's shoulder)
