Shine - Day 12: Radio silence from RB

No news from Sir Richard as yet, but we can only assume he's working on it.

We've had to motor since last evening due to insufficient wind, but this did afford us the opportunity for something of an impromptu mid crossing party. The ship's time slipped another hour yesterday evening to account for our progress west, and as luck would have it, that gave us a double happy hour. Steen knocked up an excellent lasagna so after happy hour(s) we retired to the saloon for dinner and some mighty strange Danish drinking anthems .George stood watch for a while as he was neither hungry nor thirsty, and the rest of the crew enjoyed this much earned release from the tensions of the voyage.

All over the side for a pre-breakfast swim, and we were under way again, and then...............another fish. Having caught nothing since the 'Rodgate' incident on Black Friday, certain members of the crew were doubting whether other members of the crew had lost their fishing mojo.Tim had to eat his words, however, when we hauled in a 20lb dorade.He was a magnificent,if rather angry, fish and while thrashing about on the gaff his jaws came alarmingly close to a certain set of crown jewels for comfort. The damage caused would undoubtedly have tested the skills of the two ship's medics. Andrew hacked him to pieces like a man possessed, and we were enjoying sushi in the cockpit 20 minutes later.

Fuel is topical at the moment. It appears that to put a jerry can into the tank is a six man job, and to decide how much is in the tank, the hourly consumption , and if and when we should use the engine requires nine grown men to each come up with a different scenario. The net result is that we are now sliding along nicely within 15 knots of wind with under 700 miles to go to St Lucia.

The temperature really seems to have ratcheted up a notch in the last 48 hours.On deck is not a problem with sunshine from stunning sunrise to equally magnificent sunset, and the night watches very comfortable. However, down below it's hotter than a wizard's helmet.I suspect, however, that some of our less hardy UK readers will be short on sympathy as they walk the dogs in the cold and dark, but keep your peckers up,and remember the clocks go forward in less than six months.

On that note, it's time to go.

Until tomorrow,

Mr P
