Azzurra - Day 13 –dead calm-

This day is dedicated for Nicklas and Annika, our grandchildren. They both
started to become great sailors. I would be proud to have both of them on
board. Nicklas turned out to be a great helmsman. We really would need him
on board. Annika would be the one who brings all the fun on board making
the crew happy. Both I miss. I need to tell them that Azzurra is doing
fine and we are working on overtaking one by one to kick off all the
competitors. The next 2 to 3 days we will most probably lose some places
in our ranking. But then we hope to catch up again. Azzurra is fast, much
faster than most of the participating boats. We just need some wind to
overtake them all. Right now we struggle with4 to 5 knots wind which means
we are more or less pushed back due to the two knots current from NW.
However there is coming some dirty weather from NW which will give us a
lot of uncomfortable rain but also enough wind to go fast enough SE to St.
Lucia. Opa is missing you both! The waves are as high as your first floor
in Brunnthal. You would have a lot of saltwater in your room, warm water;
the water is 25 degree warm. You just could jump in from your room into
the nice water. May be you would see dolphins or Wales. They could visit
you in your room, not so the Wales as the doors are too small for them. So
far we have not seen Wales but lot of huge dolphins .Brigitte and I hope
to see you soon in the Caribbean.
As there was no wind we decided to have a party, a day before St. Clause.
Parties are not easy. Brian contributed with one of his birthday presents,
the Champaign. Again we were listening to the finest oldies and one or the
other accompanied the song with his wonderful voice. Just to take away the
speculations, I did not sing and so not disturbing the party. We are
looking forward to celebrate our Mountain festival, half way thru the
Atlantic. This is about 20 miles away.
Today we will change our time again, to one hour back.
The whole night was a disaster. We did not sail enough mileage to reach
any competitor. This morning the wind changed again and we are heading SW
240 degree, more or less our track. The speed is disappointing, only 5
Knots SOG. This morning we found out the log Speed over water is not
function. This is probably is minor problem but Max would need it for
proper calculating the steering course. We have to find out. Hopeful it is
only a connection problem. Difficult to find, nobody knows where it is
connected.
The power management evaluation shows we have to run the Gen at least for
12 hours. We now will eat first our frozen food to then shut off one of
our three major power consumers; as there is the fridge, which is needed
to keep drinks cool and the crew happy. The other one is Max, the most
important consumer.
Current wind –ZERO-
