Blue Dolphin - Day 12 - Oh no - they've eaten Colin!

Having taken advice from Claire, the crew took 4 cabbages aboard and stowed them in canvas bags on the back rail, to save for later weeks.   During some particularly bad weather one of the bags broke and the cabbage rolled across the deck.  It was duly rescued and the crew christened it Colin (BS psychologist says - with the lack of company outside of the boat it is usual for crew to humanise inanimate objects, however, this crew seem more prone than most – they now have George {autopilot}, Danny (Dan Buoy) and now Colin (The Cabbage)and I don’t think it will end there!!  Anyway, Sally made a very fine Pork curry tonight and used Colin to make a coleslaw.  Like the fish of last night, the crew thanked Colin for providing such a tasty accompaniment to their supper.  He may not have lasted as long as expected but his passing was not in vain (unlike the last of the carrots that had to be jettisoned overboard before they had passed through the crew on their way out).

It is clear to the crew that Mike only has 3 states of being, sleeping, eating and fixing things.  He doesn’t do sitting and relaxing.  So, having had his breakfast, he was keen to fix something.  “Ah - the steering panel needs cleaning as it has been covered in sea water for days” he thought.  He proceeded to remove the steering wheel to get to the panel – just as Sally looked round.

Kathy continues with her sextant practice and today took a reading that was a mere 1 mile off of the actual position.  The crew were all very, very impressed.

Blue Dolphin has managed to have email contact with a few other boats which has brightened their days.  They enjoyed hearing about HEBE’s half way party and laughed at  their inventive games, especially pin the boats on the ocean.  BD will be holding their own half way party tomorrow and it has inspired them to be creative.  They were saddened to hear about the troubles that STARSHIP have had, particularly with 3 youngsters on board.  Still, they seem to be sorted now and are on their way to St Lucia.   SEPHINA took the bold move to go to the Cape Verdes to refuel and are still in front of BD – the crew are not happy.

SEPHINA.s blog is written by the 2 cats on board. And it has been leaked to us that this is in fact the ARK (not ARC)  with Sephina carrying the cat quota.  They also intimated that they saw who is carrying the pair of cockroaches.  BD can happily report it is not them as they have a surplus of 2 by 2s with: 2 Dolphins; 3 bears (a pair and a spare)  1 koala: 1 parrot. (BS Psycholigist says – “see what I mean!)

The wind has been blowing a very respectable 11 knots ALL DAY and the engine has not been used at all.  Long may it last!
