Starla - Log Day 11 - Chores

Hello Everyone,

Distance logged today - 134 nautical miles. Distance to date this trip - 1243 nautical miles. Remaining miles to St Lucia 1853.

The map on the web site is not receiving our position information automatically. The Arc controllers are updating the web site manually with our position information for our 1200 UTC (GMT) position. This information is been sent from the boat by e-mail. hopefully this makes out position look a lot better!

The wind has been in the north, and north west, 8- 12 knots, however lightened to 5-7 knots from 0100 hrs, making progress a little slower.

We are entering a trough of pressure between a high and low pressure system, were the wind splits in to two different directions and leaves a lull in the middle. The winds will be lighter there. We are not having much luck with the wind. If we were plotting a course for light winds we couldn't do better! When we really want more. But who doesn't

As we have plenty of fish in the refrigerator, we decided no fishing today. So no fishing tales.

A few chores have been done. We have spare fuel in 20 liter canisters strapped to the guard rail on the foredeck of the boat. One of the cans had a split around the top seam, leaking a little diesel on to the deck. The diesel has most of the can has now been emptied on the the main fuel tank to reduce the level in the can to stop the leak.

We had some water in the bilges where we are storing our tinned produce. The water came from the immersion heater repair we carried out in Las Palmas. The boat was low in the water at the stern, at that time, and the water just ran back. Now that we are sailing the water has found its way forward and in to the storage space. So we had to remove the cans, wipe then down and pump and dry out the spaces. Still a little more to get from another space, maybe tomorrow.

Colin was doing Torvil and Dean impersonations last night in the galley, trying to cook as well as skating around. This prompted him to clean the galley and the galley floor, good job done. Going to miss his triple salco. Still in all of that he turned out some great fried fish and mashed potato. I only managed a small mountain of it!

Sun has been shinning all day, no squalls as yet.

Regards,

Starla Crew
