Golondrina - Heading for Cape Verde

During his watch along side all his mates, (that's right Dave was alone) he was accompanied (unconfirmed reports) by some 30 dolphins to the starboard.  Due to the phosphorescent in the water they appear luminous however Dave's interpretation was that they were.. "spirits of the ocean untied by the hypocrisy of commercialism and symbolic of the struggle of the oppressive regime which is 'life'" ! We're a little concerned as Dave has turned his towel into a kaftan and would now like to be called 'Rainbow' and there's a light whiff of juniper wood about him!

Back in the real world, Captain ‘Birds-Eye’ Chamberlin dragged in yet another dorado. This one was twice the size and twice as angry as the previous one.  During the ensuing battle, the 'beast' had the arrogance to ignore a direct instruction from Dave to calm down, even after he pointed out that he is (not for much longer!) ahigh ranking senior officer when home in London and how people respected him - (yeah made us laugh as well) . He tried to appeal to the thrashing beast, through his new found harmony with nature, and whilst displaying empathy and understanding the beast winked at Stu as if to say .. "I've had enough, kill me now" Lunch was served with lemon and garlic.

This morning saw our calm sea become a force 6. The crew were woken by Stu and Owain having a surfing competition in which speeds of over 15knots were reached with  Golondrina hurtling down 12 ft waves.   The 'children' now insist on calling everyone 'dude' for some reason and talking about 'tubes' and 'rip -curls' . Owain has now got bleach blonde highlights and Stu's listening to Beachboy records.

Gareth was instructed to open a parcel today from George, which is much appreciated by all the crew - moral boosting correspondence ... Gareth was so excited he threw himself on the floor,  massively assisted by a broach and scored 9.4. 9.2. 9.4 and 8.9 as the English judge felt he over rotated his hips and his interpretation to music lacked flare and composure.. All is well and today's special thanks go to George..

Back to sailing - we're now heading due west to the Cape Verde Island of São Vincente to re fuel. Having done the calculations we've spent, and we suspect others have too, so long motoring around looking for wind we could put ourselves into an awkward position should it happen again on the next leg to St Lucia.  We should arrive there late tonight, re fuel, and then set sail first thing in the morning.
