Firefly - Run out of wind

Just before sunset we put in a reef in anticipation of another breezy night, apart from a brief period this didn't materialise and by Peter's 2AM to 4 AM watch the engine was on and sails dropped - a case of too much of nothing. Now mid-afternoon and we are still motoring with no wind. We have been struggling to get connected to the internet due to lots of traffic from the ARC fleet using all of the available SSB bandwidth (if that sort of thing happens with long distance radio). We are also using up our 90 minutes of air time per week a little quickly so apologies if our logs appear brief or we don't get connected. Fortunately we have the satphone email as a back up so can still get weather reports.

What wind there is, about 6 knots, is now coming from the South East and we anticipate that we will see it veer West and hopefully pick up a little tomorrow so that we can close reach through the section North East of the Cape Verdes.

Glorious sunrise on Murray's watch, followed by a pod of 10 or more dolphins surfing Firefly's bow wave for around 30 minutes. Plenty of time for Murray to get some great photos!
