Freebooter - Day 2 - Monday 3rd June

After a gentle night, dawn arose with the light winds continuing.
Rather surprisingly, there were still about six other boats in sight. By
0600, the decision was taken to go onto the engine for a while to
recharge the batteries and to put a bit of pace on. Thankfully we were
back sailing again a couple of hours later with the chute up.

The good weather continued throughout the day, with the wind
strengthening in the late afternoon. The chute was dropped, and with
bigger seas and stronger gusts, the sails were well reefed for the
night. Passing over the edge of the Continental Shelf, the sea abated
and the depth instrument went from 190 metres to 1.5 metres! The true
reading should have been in the thousands.

Coming on watch at dawn was beautiful. No other vessels in sight (or
on AIS), and the knowledge of being a long way from land makes one quite
reflective. Watching the following seas rise up a metre or so higher
than the stern of the boat is mesmeric, as the waves lift and pass under
us.

Total distance logged now 258 nm.
