Webster - Log 2 - Biscay!

Started from Royal Plymouth Corinthian YC at 0800 UTC bound for Bayona, some 550 miles off. Light northerlies saw us put the brand new spinnaker up for the first time (at all, let alone in anger). Second across the line, but its not a race, they keep saying - boats motoring to get clear air confirmed this as a fact! Sunshine, can you believe it? Weather briefing forecasting N/NE 4-5 cant be more perfect. Got the fishing gear out of its packet stuck it out over the back and caught a whopping mackerel, all of 5 inches long. If no-one else catches anything this trip I am in line for biggest fish prize! Really pleased with the boat, pointing high in the S-SW shore breeze (yes- on the nose) going fast. AIS not working again which is a pain as it had been on delivery to Plymouth. Monday had my first SSB transmission - worked a treat and entered into my first SSB radio net and I received the WCC text weather email over HF - the office will be pleased as they bought me the kit so they could keep contact - wonder why? I haven't poisoned anyone yet with the one pot cooking I've been doing (paella and hash) but we do have the European Cornish pasty mountain on board, so many in fact we are going to open a Mrs Miggins' Pie Shop in Bayona as we are never going to eat them all. A trip of many firsts already I had my first spinnaker wrap off Ushant, saw our first dolphins today at half way and we had our first pigeon land and hitch a lift - too small to make a pie to sell in our prospective shop unfortunately. Sun is out, wind is up so i am off to enjoy it. Charlie (Webster 'out')
