Easy Rider - EASY RIDER....Captains Log...Day 6

Yesterday was a grueling day!! As Soy started her watch at 06.30, I heard the wind picking up & felt Easy speeding up, so I went up to give Soy a hand.
Sure enough, the wind had increased to 20 kts  with gusts approaching 25kts. Kristian, who had just climbed into his bunk was summoned & together we
reefed the main sail & the genoa. Just as well!! The gusts were soon reaching 30kts. At 08.00 we put the 2nd reefs in. For the next 5 hours with gusts in
excess of 40 kts, rain pouring down & waves crashing over the boat we battled on. Helming was a difficult & very wet experience.!!

Finally at 11.30 we passed the "1000" miles to go mark & Martin commented in the log "wind only 20 kts!!" We still had large swells & an angry sea so we kept
the reefs for most of the afternoon. By 17.30 with the sea calming down we removed the reefs & enjoyed the evening sunshine with a well earned (very large,
because we only have the one) sundowner.....never has a gin & tonic tasted better!!

Soy's comment: i challenge anyone to make hamburgers (not pre-packed) in a gale of this magnitude......also to drink a sundowner! It is  not possible to sip that sundowner! it just goes down in one hit as the boat lurches!
marvellous!
