Rosa Fascia - The Run to the Finish!

Where has the time gone?? These past days have just flown by and now it seems we are about to have our last full night at sea prior to our arrival in St Lucia.Things have gone well for us - perhaps not quite as optimal as they might have been but nevertheless it has been a good sail. Most importantly, it has been thoroughly enjoyable and the four of us on board Rosa Fascia have been sharing a special experience. A bit of a shame that it will soon come to an end! But then, there are always the rum punches that we have been eagerly awaiting!!Our fish meals have been few and far between, reflecting the success we haven't had with our fishing line! But Jack caught a nice one today so Amanda is preparing that for dinner. We have eaten so well all trip!! Have had a few flying fish looking. read more...

Rosa Fascia - 760 miles to go ...

We finally started moving under sail again after sitting in a calm area, where we finally resorted to a few hours motoring. Good night sail with 7 knots of boat speed. Currently creeping along at 4.5 knots in 9 knots of  wind. The forecast shows sailing winds all the way into St Lucia albeit slow !!!We are however enjoying the sunshine and are all having a great time. Amanda is excellingherself with some great food. We now have wi -fi on board and I've been going through 500 + Emails.Current position N 15 48 .518 W 47 55 949. read more...

Rosa Fascia - Big fish and great downwind sail

Having used up a lot of our fresh food we started fishingstarted fishing this morning and within ten minutes hooded a Doradowhich gave us quite a battle particularly as we were clocking 8 knots. Our modified old Genoa flown off the inner forestay and using the boom on a preventer as a second pole has worked well and we have been making good speed straight downwind and directly on track .....Over 650 miles completed and 1440to go. We're looking forward to the halfway point but are are finding the days slipping by very quickly. The forecastis looking like light winds from tomorrow for the next seven days. We think we're far enough advanced to miss a big no wind hole that will be opening up in a couple of days ... ??!!Love to all. read more...

Rosa Fascia - wonderful life ...

It is yet another glorious day and we are all feeling relaxed and enjoying the sunshine after a good nights sleep. We were joined yesterday by a school of dolphins who stayed with us for quite some time and had a a steak pie which turned out ok considering the size of our oven!! Our day today will consist of some sunbathing, reading and catching up on our emails as we now have our internet working again. How wonderful is this life?Amanda XX. read more...

Rosa Fascia - Farewell to the Cape Verdes!

After a wonderful few days in and around the Cape Verde Islands, it was also time to go! We are sailors after all! The start was picturesque, giving a wonderful view of Mindelo behind us. We set too large a sail area and although it was great for a while, we like others were caught out. Several 'awkward moments' over the course of the next hour had us all very focussed, but before we could reduce sail area we had lost one of our Dan Buoys over the side and had the cabin rather untidy. But the Dan Buoy deployed perfectly, so that was good to know!Things have since settled down a lot and we seem to be going well, after such a poor start to proceedings. Some things though don't change - Amanda continues to spoil us with superb gastronomic delights, we enjoy logging on to the Fleetviewer. read more...
