Lancelot II - Nov 28th Blog

Hello Lancelot II Fans

So another day at sea and still trucking. They say everyday is a school day so here’s what we learnt today-

1) We’re going to need a bigger bucket to land Mahi Mahi.
We went through all the usual pre-fishing steps including a long conversation around the relative merits of the fish lure which the chap in the shop in Cascais assured us was the best lure possible ever in in the world ever or the original and faithful squiddy. We decided on the the squiddy and so the line went out. About 30 mins we spotted we’d got something and Peter reeled it all the way in while everyone grabbed fish killing knives and gloves and buckets and David and Chris did actually get the fish on to the transom and in the bucket before it jumped and casually swam away. Luckily Chatherine managed to take some photos so we have proof that we did actually (neearly) get a fish. Bigger bucket next time...

2) Cameras are too complicated.
Both Peter and Chris have very nice cameras with a million settings and lenses and an instruction manual which is 120 pages long. Chris spent all afternoon examining said manual. Later on as the moon came up it was time to test the knowledge of the low level light settings. He managed to blind the driver a few times and get no moon shots. Back to taking photos of sunrise and set set for us I think.

3) None of us know the difference between original sin, mortal sin and venal sin.
Another involved discussion about what was the difference and the relative hierarchy of the sin involved but no conclusion was reached so its on the list of things to Google on arrival. In the meantime (succinct) answers on a postcard please.

4) Profile may have an on board hairdresser but Lancelot II has a masseuse.
Zuzana revealed that she’s pretty amazing at working out knots in tired driving shoulders. An orderly queue soon formed.

We’ve got a couple of ARC yachts 4 or 5 miles off to port ‘Peter van Seestermuehe’ and ‘Miss Malin’, both 56 footers, and three more sets of nav lights around us overnight but they weren’t AISing so we don’t know who they are. Nice to know someone else is out there. Maybe we’ll try and speak to time on the VHF later.

Lunch : Booby Cheese (named by my dad for the shape), ham and Bimbo bread sandwiches with Pringles and watermelon
Dinner : Sausages, Beans and my attempt at canarian potatoes (thanks Theresa for the recipe)

Thats it for now, more tomorrow

My birthday T-2 (big hint everyone – email all your lovely birthday wishes to [email protected] or else I’ll take you off the christmas card list )

Lots of love to all at home

L2 and Crew
