Lydia - Day 6 - A Green Rub

Thankfully the remaining peas, which featured so prominently in yesterday's post, were pushed overboard just before they jumped by themselves.

Today was the day when we expected the fizzing moppet to shine. Acting on information from INFINITY B we deployed the most garish fishing lure we could find. The fizzing moppet does look like something you could buy in the dodgier parts of Soho (so we're told, 'cos of course none of us have been there) and mid afternoon we thought we had actually caught our first fish. But it was not to be. Such is Lydia's speed that as Henry reeled it in the line went limp and there starts another fisherman's story. We was robbed!

Its official; we're not lost! The skipper has successfully bamboozled the crew with talk of spherical trigonometry, but the end result of his tortuously complicated calculations is a position that ties in nicely with the GPS and confirms another day's run of about 150 miles. Not as good as the preceding day where Lydia clocked 180 miles, but its all progress and we have to admit that the view from the front of our division is pretty good. The windy clouds mentioned in our last blog post were followed by a ring around last night's moon and we are primed for the wind to pick up a bit in the wee hours as we close São Vicente.

No significant repairs today, but some innovation to prevent the cockpit looking like a mad axeman has been at work with spilled meat and blood red wine littering the deck. We now have a stabilized tray suspended from the cockpit spray hood and what it lacks in practicality it makes up for in entertainment as 4 glasses of wine lurch wildly........ but without a drop being spilled.

Nightfall finds us in company with the usual suspects and a couple of new friends. There are reports from ALIA VITA ahead of us of whales seen this afternoon. At this rate of progress we expect an all hands call at about 0600 (still very dark) to return the sail configuration from our twin headsail rig to 'regular sails' for the finishing line. We're looking forward (fingers crossed) to breakfast alongside.
