Magelanus III - LOG 3 - 11NOV14

After a departure in the middle of 51 boats, we decided to go South earlier than most. We were careful not to fall in the “acceleration zone”, but we may not have avoided it entirely as we “flew” down South before experiencing some “shadow effect” later on. We did enjoy the fun and had great first surfs, although carefully, keeping in mind that we do want to get to St. Lucia in good shape. Luís Vilela (father) cooked the first lunch/dinner and we all “devoured” it. Aaaahhh and the Nespresso (what else?) was just G-R-E-A-T!

Sunday we realized we were most likely among the last third of the ARC Armada and, with an already slowing wind by mid-day, routine was "sinking in”. Filipe Vilela (son) was looking around for a more comfortable place to sleep, João Blasques hanging on his PC lost in a myriad of calculations and João, the Skipper, was looking around for his sun glasses. Finally, “Manel", our Hydrovane wind pilot was doing marvelous tracking despite unfavorable winds for his likes. Then the night came in, and with it the wind left us. We tried hard to keep sails up against all odds, but gave up one first time during the night and then again in the morning until… 21.30 UTC). Wind forecasts are not exciting. Diesel calculations begun and we are looking forward to the promised winds - timidly appearing now. Last, but not least, the fishing season begun today! Two bites, but no much luck so far… except for, believe it or not, a bowline (likely a debris of a buoy)! We’re confident we’ll do better tomorrow… We’ll be back soon. Over and out!
