Nexus - Calm motoring in fickle currents

The wind is gone again, slowly swinging to the north and building. We're motoring in calmer waters now on a beautiful morning. We have 130 miles to go and since we can't go forward to fly the Gennaker with our compromised trampolines and we don't want to pound too much with our jury rig on the dingy, we've decided to slow down to arrive at first light tomorrow into Richard's Bay. The wind and current should pick up later today which may speed us up on our way so I'm not quite sure how we'll manage to do that, but that's the plan! We've had a calm several hours of slow motoring while we crab walked through adverse currents making 5kts over ground, but everyone is rested, so we're in good spirits and grateful for the improved weather and seas. We're really looking forward to arrival in Richard's Bay, it's hard to come to terms with the fact that we've sailed 22,000nm, all the way to Africa the long way around! In Richard's Bay we plan to enjoy a short safari, complete our minor repairs and maintenance on NEXUS, enjoy the company of our fellow WARC crews, and begin making our way down the coast to Francis Bay and Cape Town next!
