Aspen - Log 20 Friday 13 Dec; Mother Mother Ocean

'I've wanted to sail upon your waters since I was 3 feet tall'. Those words by Jimmy Buffett pretty much sum up my life. Dreams of crossing oceans were just that, childhood dreams.

But guess what? Several oceans later and I'm still amazed at the mother of all life on Earth, the sea.

75% of our planet is covered in water and the oceans seem timeless. Especially when it is blowing 25-27 knots all night long with squalls to keep things interesting for Maria and I on little Aspen!

Yet Aspen has found the key - she rides the waves with such skill and grace as she has become one with the sea. Maria fights the sea with every meal she has to cook. Staying upright in a pitching galley takes the kind of skill she has developed over the last several years out here.

Captain Steve tries to keep Aspen moving forward with the right sail choices for comfort and speed. He has not learned how to really do that very well yet but keeps trying.

Aspen and her crew are now 19 days at sea on this next great grand adventure and maybe, just maybe, we are appreciating our Mother the Ocean much more than ever before.

Sail on, sail on Aspen...
