Azzurra - Day 16 & 17 & 18 – Last Lure-

Position Wednesday, 11.12.2013 19:00 UTC: 17”21’.387 N, 047”40’.924 W
DTW St. Lucia: 788 sm
We try hard! The last two days we made some good mileage 154 and 164sm,
however we have no idea on our position in relation to all the other
Yachts. According to the weather forecast we now should have sufficient
wind taking us to St. Lucia. Right in the moment we run with 5 to 6 knots.
The wind speed is about 15 knots. The waves, 4 meters high, are coming
from starboard, giving us a hard time as they shake and roll us
continuously. Especially the Genoa is flapping back and force. In a few
hours the wind hopefully will follow the forecast and increase to 25m
knots. The whole day it’s sunny. We celebrated our last 1000m miles with
‘Weisswurst’. Brian learns something about Bavarian food and habits. We do
not know whether he really likes it or not.
By the way we lost another Lure an also the new fishing line. It must have
been a big, big fish. Now the hook is on the starboard rod. Believe it or
not, we had bite. The Fish however escaped before we could see him. We
decided not to join the ARC fishing contest, due to the leak of lures.
Since 6 days we are now sailing on Port site. It is very difficult to use
the front bathroom as the sink will overflow. Today is the first day
Azzurra is not heeled too much. So I will have a shower.
The night watches are now much more fun than before. Since the moon is
there again you can see something, although you see fewer stars. We
emptied all then6 canister of fuel we extra carry with us into the Azzurra
tank. We are well stocked with fuel. We have enough for 15 more days. It
is the first time we are able to calculate the exact usage.
The downwind course is heavy working on our sails. Currently we have about
20 to 23 knots wind rolling us thru the 4 m high waves running 7 to 8
knots. It would be nice to have lower waves, proving more comfortable
cruising and sleeping at night time. The weather now is as one would
expect it. Sunny, some little clouds and temperatures above 25 degr.C. We
all enjoy our happy hours in the afternoon. Green ones are enough
available keeping the crew happy in a party mood. Nevertheless everyone is
looking forward to arrive in St. Lucia as soon as possible. Forecast of
arrival times vary from Monday afternoon to Tuesday noon.
On behalf of the crew
