Lancelot II - Day 17 - rum punch and salad

Today is our 18th day at sea. With less than 350 nautical miles remaining in our journey across the Atlantic, it is beginning to feel like we are nearing the end. While we are trying to not count our chickens before they hatch, talk on the boat is turning to topics like: “Where are the nicest beaches in St. Lucia?” ... and ... “I can’t wait for my first Rum punch when we hit land!” ... and ... “Remember salad?”

It seems that as each day passes, the weather gets hotter, the waves bigger, and the flying fish are getting bolder. Just last night, in yet another “I-aint-never-seen-that-before” moment, a flying fish jumped out of the water, under the side rails, over the top deck, skimmed my lap, went through the companion-way hatch and down into the saloon. He flopped around inside the boat for a minute or so, until Jacko was able to catch and release. We suspect the fish was trying to get at our supplies of chocolate and cheese. And, proving that fish aren’t the only thing around here that shoot through the sky, last night’s display of shooting stars left Terisa to comment... “It is like the sky is falling”.

As we surpass 2 full weeks on the Atlantic, our bodies are showing signs of wear and tear. Injuries, sea sickness, dehydration and heat exhaustion are but a few of the physical challenges we have all faced while on board. Yes, in many ways we are exhausted. But, as a friend of mine so aptly says it... “It is the kind of exhausted you get when you do something f#*%’ing epic!”.  Despite any physical discomforts we may have, everyone on board does a fantastic job at keeping the smiles large and the laughter loud. What a show Steve and Jacko put on yesterday... Steve throwing jelly candies from inside the saloon toward Jacko at the helm. After a handful of jelly bears over board, Jacko finally managed to catch one in his mouth, to very loud cheers from everyone on deck. You would think he scored the winning goal in the world cup finals!

At our current speed, we expect to arrive in St. Lucia on the morning of the 13th. Rum punch and salad here we come!!!
