Arkouda - Sea Day 15 Magic Carpet Ride or Washing Machine?

03:26 UMT, 12/11/13, 13 17.7 N 37 25 8, Course 277 degrees, SOG 8 Kts Wind speed 15 kts

Yes, I know we are still heading a little south, but as the wind backs to the east (right now it still NNE, meaning more north than east) or slight NE, we should be able to adjust our course to the rhumb line and ride it in.

As soon as I hit send on the button last night the radar showed rain ahead. I manage to close all the hatches and bring cushions inside and we got a nice little boat wash for an hour so. Once it passed the wind begin to pick up, first to 9 knots, 10, now 14-15 kts. If the waves matched the wind direction we would truly have a magic carpet ride whisking us from one continent to another. Unfortunately, the wind has been "swirly" farther north and we have two sets waves coming in--one from the back which is good--one from the side, not so good. We will start the nice trajectory down the backside wave, then get hit with a loud bang from the wave from the side, Arkouda does a little dance and shimmy, and then smooths it all out again. The motion is akin to washing machine in the agitator cycle!

We are doing fine, glad to feel the wind in our hair, and headed the right (sort of) direction!

Cynthia
