Azzurra - Day 15 – waiting for NE wind-

Position Sunday, 08.12.2013 09:00 UTC: 19”56’.627 N, 038”25’.993 W
DTW St. Lucia: 1334 sm

We are on the edge of a big deep pressure area with lots of squalls and heavy rain. It is a wet course. Most of it we were able to navigate around. Some of it hit us. It is just some sweat water coming from above. The major part of water, salt water we get from the downer part. Due to the healing resulted by the upwind course we are unable to empty the bilge. We have to wait until we run a downwind course. It looks that this will not happen before Sunday noon. We will continue South until the wind will let us. North seems not to be an option; we would run into a heavy storm. The whole day we run thru more or less dirty weather. During the night we are unable to go around the squalls, as we only can identify the real bad ones by radar. Many of them will hit us tonight. Latest weather reports indicate that after Sunday we will get N then NE winds with good speed providing, an end of the irritated courses Azzurra had to sail. At least we have a tendency sailing west, giving us hope.

We had a big fish on our rod the night before. We could not get it to the boat but it overtook us and put the line around the keel or rudder. We had to cut it to free up the line. This was the 3rd lure we lost. Now the big
fish swims around with our hook and lure in his mouth. We still have three more and we are waiting for the real catch.

The moral on board is wonderful, just opposite the weather we are going thru. We have lots of fun, laughing a lot. Brian is looking forward to the parties in St. Lucia. We all hope he does not need to wait too long. We started dreaming to have some sand in our shoes and lying on the beach with a nice big Pina Colada in our hands. The time will come and our dream will become true. Paul made an inventory check on our food situation. It
seems we are very well stocked and green once will last until we arrive. Also water is not an issue, as long there are green once available. Franz does not stop getting the crew happy. For lunch he served a Bavarian
Sausage salad, a reason for Brian to start a Shoeplattler dance. For dinner we had Spaghetti Bolognaise, with just a little pepperoni; a reason to try another green one.
