Lancelot II - Day 7 - Rain to Bilblical Proportions
Lancelot II - Day 7 - Rain to Bilblical Proportions
Rain..... to biblical proportions, our shift started at 1600, we loaded on
our damp, musty rain gear and headed out into the grey and relieved Steve from
helming the past four hours. The Atlantic was huge, the waves rolling as we
disappeared between them, the wind gusting and pushy. The skies opened and for a
couple hours we were poured on more then skipper Jacko had experienced on this
boat.... ever. While we tried to avoid it more then a few waves crashed over the
bow of the boat soaking all on deck and managing to make there way into the
cabin. Watching waves come over and smack into Jacko as he held the helm with a
serious scowl... made me think this is what movies are made of! With all this
happening the ladies were serving risotto from the galley....amazing, what a
great crew this boat has! The navigation equipment on deck decided to strike
against the moisture and we continued through the night navigating by the stars
and winds, thankfully as the sunset we did see a glimpse of red and the night
was dry and relatively calm. We woke to the moon rising as just a sliver and the
sun came back to dry us all out. The boat looked like a yard sale this morning
with most of the rails pegged with clothes and wet weather gear. We have had a
head wind for some time now and I must admit this heel (boat leaned over to one
side at a 40’ angel) is becoming old. The super tanker that came within a mile
of us was headed for Brazil and diverted course for us as boats under sail have
right of way, cool and once again mid day we were greeted by about 40 dolphins
jumping through the waves to sat hi and play on the bow....just a day at
sea.
All for now,
Terisa
and the crew of Lancelot II
