Lancelot II - Day 1 - The first 24 hours

Hi all,

Well we are off at last after a lot of preparations, jobs lists and shopping!

The start line for the ARC was as great as ever, lots of boats around and a fantastic warship as one end of our start line to see us underway. We were not early but not too late for the start which was nice and found a lovely spot with few boats around us just after the start to sail down towards the south of Gran Canaria. Unfortunately as we were heading down the coast the breeze dropped down and we ended up drifting, I fear we may have got a little too close to the land and just did not see the light winds until it was too late.

Overnight the breeze eventually picked up to allow us to sail upwind before slowly shifting behind by this morning. We have had an unfortunate incident with one of our spinnakers where we broached and it ripped one of the corners clean off.! 2 rolls of duct tape, time and effort and it is back together, not tried and tested as yet as we have a the mainsail and jib up instead. When the breeze drops a little we will test to see how strong duct tape really is!!

The crew seem to have settled into life onboard really well, watch patterns are in flow (snoring can be heard as I type!). Moral seems good at the moment, I’m hoping for a great crossing with lots of laughs!

At the moment we are on a course pointing vaguely at the Cape Verde Islands, we are expecting the breeze to drop down which will considerably slow our progress before the Trade Winds hopefully fill in and drive us towards the lands of Rum and Reggae!

Hello to everyone at home, hope all is well, please do send us any messages via www.lancelot40.com, we would love to hear from you.

All the best for now,

Jacko

xx

and crew... Annette, Matt, Mel, Steven and last by certainly no means least... Terisa!
