Exody - Day 3 - Other Life

UFOs we thought as the only explanation of repeatedly twinkling and dancing red lights in the southwestern night sky during the early hours - far too high for masts, no land- witnessed by three of us and all sober! Any other suggestions ?

It was a good day for marine life following the previous day's whale experience. Octopus was the only credible description for something brown and with legs that Agnes saw on the surface - though we thought they lived deeper. A small turtle was seen, several petrels and finally we were treated to dolphin games at the bow which never cease to thrill however many times one has witnessed the spectacle before, though for Tony it was a well video'd and photographed first.

We motored all day over a calm sea - well under 10 knots of wind and all sails furled to avoid any flogging damage. This enabled us to diagnose and fix the problem with the furler- a loosely fixed fairlead, to refix the broken bimini fixing and generally catch up with practical jobs on board

It was good to receive an 'at sea email' from London based daughters of three of us on board. Great to hear on the radio net that most problems reported by boats the previous day had been fixed - the net community is building - radio net quiz tomorrow!

With the watch pattern now established and crew generally acclimatised, we finished the day eating dinner in our oasis of cockpit light amidst a pitch black night listening to Bach Cello Suites followed by Scottish traditional cello music - prompting reminiscences of our own other life!
