Merlyn III - Day16- The Boat that Rocked

We made contact with the wives who have now arrived in St. Lucia and are, we presume, anxiously awaiting our arrival.

We spent most of the day on  broad reach with about 20 knots of East by North wind, but we could not lay St. Lucia on this point of sail. However, in late afternoon we put up our twin pole rig and are now sailing downwind straight for St. Lucia currently maintaining 8.4 Knots. According to my chart plotter we will arrive in approximately two days time if we keep this up. Realistically I would estimate we will arrive very late on Thursday or early on Friday. It is gratifying that the trade winds have finally arrived, albeit about two weeks late. While there is some swell it is not uncomfortable and we feel we are on the last lap.

Last night’s feast was Poulet a la Courage avec Champignon(basically a chicken stew with liberal doses of herbs). The night before was an excellent shoulder of lamb adorned, with much garlic and roast potatoes prepared by David.

Last night we played a video ‘The Boat that Rocked’. Based on Radio Caroline, very anarchic, lots of good 1960’s music.

Christopher.
