Golondrina - Christmas is here ......

Today the crew of Golondrina stood and had a minutes silence, thinking of all those loved ones at home running around doing the Christmas shopping.  Our thoughts are with you - fighting for parking spaces, buying rolls of wrapping paper only to find the load left over from last year, trying to work out what does "Don't go mad on me" actually mean? buying yet another Christmas tree stand because you can't find the old one and they always fall over anyway, realising you still haven't updated the address book from last year for the Christmas Cards,  un-knotting the Christmas tree lights which don't work anyway,  working which parents to visit and which ones to offend AND our special thoughts go to retail sales persons who are listening to a loop of Christmas music - Remember there's only 2 weeks to go! (THERE WILL BE PAY BACK FROM THOSE LEFT BEHIND AT HOME!)

We, on the other hand are forced to spend another day in 35 degrees of sun and blistering heat on a flat ocean with a slight north easterly breeze. Our thoughts couldn't be further from "How long does one simmer Brussels sprout for?" (AS I SAID, YOU WON’T GET OFF LIGHTLY!)

So to sailing - At sunrise the catamaran Enchantee was seen to port and when we hoisted the big spinnaker she disappeared behind and out of view.  We're are aware we  have been heading south of our destination, however due to the trade winds we are moving faster than those to the north.  Having said that today at 1800 Gareth, looking at all the pros and cons, has decided that we should turn for directly for St Lucia and hope that the north easterly winds keep up, giving us a better angle of sail.  A few days ago we were over 100th in the fleet of 200 however over the last few days this has decreased to 84th and this morning we find ourselves in the 70's. ( bit like Dave's wardrobe .... Ok I admit it was a round-about route to a punch line!).

Rest assured we have plenty of food and water. Electricity usage is being scrupulously monitored by 'Ebeneezer' Davis.  Yesterday he caught someone using a ignition spark for the cooker instead of a match - you should have heard the paddy (‘someone's obviously tired!’).

Our half way celebration was a lavish affair, however at this late stage, the kidney beans may have been a tactical mistake.  Let's just use the verb 'to go' as a describing word.

So 1100 miles to go and looking at Friday or Saturday of next week to arrive in St Lucia (YIPPEE!)
