Firefly - Less than a 1000 miles to go

We literally drifted across this milestone in the early morning with less than 4 knots of breeze. At one stage we dropped all the sails; their flapping was making it worse yet we were still going over a knot in the right direction helped by current and a following sea. This quiet spell will delay our arrival in Antigua but it did give Paul a chance to get on with some maintenance and repair jobs. The skipper has a comprehensive set of tools and spares on board for almost all eventualities but with one omission - he said' If I had a hammer I would get that job done quicker'

Having undergone 2 days of beating in rain and several days of calm prior to that, we believed wrongly, that it was now all downhill in the tradewinds that seemed to start blowing nicely on Monday. Anyway C'est la Vie, the crew are all happy, very well fed and watered so what is the rush? Luckily there are no flight schedules we are up against but there is a certain Barney Greenhill who is due to fly in to meet us in Antigua in 6 days time. Current estimates are that our arrival timings may well coincide and we can enjoy our first rum punches together. Barney has been e mailing through the daily joke, mostly unrepeatable on this respectable forum. We have a procedure whereby the skipper reads out just the first few lines of the joke a few hours before supper, and then when coffee is served the joke is read out in full.

Paul, Murray, Peter and Grateful (appreciative of the advice on sharks and dog fish from G2 he's going no where near them!)
