Free Spirit - Day 4 (Free Spirit 62) - Dolphins, suspected whale & first fish!!

Bright blue sky and minimal wind today, the forecast for Golf area is mildly encouraging that a better breeze will spring up this avo, in the meantime we've been enjoying having a 'flat' boat (the prior 24 hours were closed hauled port tack for the whole time), drying clothes and airing cabins. Our wildlife count is going up steadily, we've been visited by several pods of dolphins, up to 20 in each, playing in the pressure wave at our bow, some with pups (I'm guessing on terminology there!) ...swimming tightly alongside them! We will take a half-credit for a whale sighting, only in that it was a larger fin rising more slowly above the waterline and staying there a while, the dolphins haven't tended to do that, you'd be right to demand a photo though (we're working on that!). Mark has caught our first fish also, a 3kg white fish with yellow tail (should have bought the fish ID chart!!) on a squid-like lure, Aaron then cooked him in a Thai curry last night, highly successful! Boat is going well, we've been sailing with a preventer on the boom most of the time for safety, one reef at night more often than not. One of the chart-plotters has started playing up, and with it our AIS broadcast and receipt, so we're working to fix that, meantime we're broadcasting to marinetraffic.com via the satellite link, MMSI is 23503944, Free Spirit of course, that info is updated every 5 minutes. We're v. seldom seeing boats out here now despite the number of ARCĂ©rs on the water, its a big place :)
