Starla - Log Day 1 - Finally off on our trip

Hello Everyone

Distance logged today - 100 nautical miles

The last morning before the start was a rather hectic one.
We decided to check the Genekar sail, that had been recently repaired, to make sure that it had been packed properly. When we unpacked it, we saw that the sail-maker had not repaired the sail! So at 10:00 am, it was a dash to the sail-maker to have him make the repair. We got the sail back on-board 15 minutes before we left for the start of the rally. A little too close for comfort!

In addition to that we got the Genekar halyard wrapped around the rigging, so I had to go up the mast, to the top, to release the wrap.

After all of that, we proceeded to the start.

As we left the marina entrance we had a great send off. A band was playing and spectators were packed at both sides waving us off.

The start went well and we had a lot of breeze, up to 25 knots, as a squall came through 5 minutes after the start. The wind gradually died away at nightfall. Making the first night a bit of a slog!

As the early morning came the wind was still very light, however in to this afternoon the breeze has filled in and we have a speed over the ground of 7.5 knots.

We have a recurring problem with the wind instrument. It is now not functioning at all. The network cable that was recently installed will need to be checked.

All of the crew are well and are adjusting to the watch system and getting used to being at sea again. Colin had a fish on his new rod, but it got away. So it was canned tuna for lunch.

We hope to be able to bring you some good fishing stories soon!

Regards,

Starla Crew
