Firefly - Early morning rain

One day in and all is well. Its been a very comfortable re-introduction into passage making aboard Firefly, the sea state being slight. Despite fairly changeable conditions we managed a day one run of 153nm and are pleased that we have placed ourselves a good distance south of the ARC which we believe started from Gran Canaria at noon today.

The 'yellow peril' parasailor is up and while it was a bit unstable in less than 10 knots of wind, we now have 13 knots and the boat speed is reaching 7 knots.

As we passed South East of Fuerteventura we had several night time visits by dolphins, visible due to the phosphorescence. While Paul was on the midnight to 0200 watch a small dolphin did a couple of leaps of about 4m height. The moon is still quite large although waning and once it rose the light it produced was very significant, like twilight.

Weather has been fine with sun and light clouds, with exception of a squall on Murray's 0600 to 0900 watch bringing a brief shower of heavy early morning rain.

The crew are eating well, getting an early taste of the Caribbean with Murray's Chicken Gumbo on Friday evening. This evening's meal will be a challenge; the frozen fish we bought at the supermarket turns out to be squid, fortunately we have found a recipe so fingers crossed!

Paul, Murray and Peter
