World ARC Weather - Leg 21

14 January 2011

World ARC Weather - Leg 21
Issued 0600UTC 14 Jan 11

A TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE OVER S'RN AFRICA WILL WEAKEN THROUGH THIS 17TH WHILE REMAINING SEMI STATIONARY OVER S'RN AFRICA. ON THE 18TH THIS TROUGH WILL BEING TO SLIGHTLY STRENGTHEN AND DRIFT W'WARD.

A HIGH CURRENTLY CENTERED AT 34S/06W WILL MOVE E'WARD THROUGH THE 16TH WHILE WEAKENING. RIDGING ASSOCIATED WITH THIS HIGH CURRENTLY EXTENDS FROM 28W E'WARD TO 15E, BETWEEN 40S AND 10S. THIS RIDGE WILL WEAKEN THROUGH THE 16TH AS THIS ASSOCIATED HIGH MOVES E'WARD WHILE WEAKENING. THIS HIGH PRESSURE RIDGING WILL STRENGTHEN SOME AS A SECOND HIGH MOVES E'WARD ALONG 40S STARTING LATE ON THE 17TH.

ON THE 15TH LARGE SW'LY SWELLS ASSOCIATED WITH A GALE MOVING E'WARD NEAR ANTARCTICA WILL PROPAGATE NE'WARD INTO GRID ALPHA. THESE LARGE SWELLS WILL PERSIST UNTIL LATE ON THE 16TH BEFORE ABATING.

CONCLUSIONS: THE LARGE HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE CENTRAL SOUTH ATLANTIC WILL CONTINUE TO BE THE DOMINANT PLAYER FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS. HOWEVER AS THIS HIGH MOVES E'WARD THE RIDGING THAT HAS BEEN RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SE'LY WIND OVER THE LAST FEW DAYS WILL WEAKEN RESULTING IN LIGHTER WINDS IN ALL GRIDS. ON THE 18TH AS THE TROUGH DRIFTS W'WARD THE SE'LY WINDS ALONG THE W'RN COAST OF SOUTH AFRICA WILL BE ENHANCED IN THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY OF THE COAST.
