New for World ARC route, Lombok

07 September 2015

This year for the first time the route of World ARC includes a visit to Lombok, Indonesia. Lombok, replacing the Bali stopover, can be compared with what Bali was 15 years ago, a remote paradise without many western influences. The people are warm and kind and only just starting to learn about tourism. Lombok is a beautiful island, about the same size as Bali with 3.5 million inhabitants. While still largely undeveloped Lombok offers breath-taking beaches, surf, coral reefs, secluded bays and many small islands to explore. Lombok is rich in culture and is sure to offer a fascinating visit for all World ARC yachts.

While in Lombok the fleet will be berthed at Marina del Ray in a large protected bay situated between the island of Gili Gede and mainland Lombok. Gili Gede is separate from the mainland by a small stretch of water just some 400m wide. While ashore on Gili Gede World ARC are based at Secret Island Resort which has a commanding views over the yachts in the anchorage.

Gili Gede (meaning Big Island in Susak) has a population of about 1000 people spread over 5 villages. Most of its locals are originally refugees from other parts of Indonesia, Middle East and Papua. Participants can explore the island on foot and will discover many amazing places to swim and snorkel including wonderfully secluded beaches on the north tip of the island.

The program here in Lombok includes a day tour to nearby highlights including, open fresh produce markets, temples and an ancient Summer Palace once used by the King of Bali.
