Gozwoz - Day 15 from Bermuda

At 11 last night Our Great Leader studied the fuel gauge and decreed that from then on we should sail. From such decisions great things arise. The wind built to 12 knots or so and we were making good speed by breakfast time. The Bosun looked increasingly restive and sought permission to hoist the cruising chute which we did about midday. Since then GOZWOZ has been going like a train. The speed of 9.1 knots has been seen, momentarily, on the screen of the Navigator's Garmin. We are eating the miles up and are hopefully looking towards a finish in the early hours rather than tomorrow morning. We have even discussed what we have on board to celebrate with.

All this has come at a price. Last night we lost the minnow whose trace had been snapped or bitten through. It was concluded by some that this was a price worth paying to the wind gods, though we feel sorry for whoever might still have a mouthful of minnow.

A replacement minnow, Minnow II, has been found in the tackle box and is now trolling behind us. Of course it has none of the allure of the cherished minnow. It also has the problem of being towed at an improbable speed. It matters not since we have the Coxswain's mushroom linguini to look forward to for supper.

While our fishing has been unsuccessful today, there are numerous fishing boats in the vicinity, no doubt a sign of our impending landfall. Otherwise, apart from another excellent loaf of bread produced from the oven by the Navigator, there has been little of interest.

Navigator's mistake of the day (yesterday): The Navigator arrived in the cockpit looking for his breakfast, though at an improbably early hour (about 6.30). On being asked why he was up so early, he looked at his watch and, noting that it had changed itself to Stockholm time, returned to his berth. The crew, particularly Roger, thought this was very funny and keep asking him if he is still on Stockholm time. Sadly the Navigator has to suffer for his craft.
Happy 60th Birthday to the gorgeous Mrs Navigator!!
