Nexus - 700 miles down, 1600 to go

It was a dark and squally night but the winds were not too bad and directly behind us, and we were watching for rain squalls on radar. A patch of what looked like light rain came across the screen and turned out to be a lot bigger wind than we realized, and we still had our gennaker up. We quickly turned down wind as the wind increased to 30-35kts, reducing it to 20-25kts apparent across the deck to protect the sails and rig. We were skating along at 12-15kts for over an hour and hit a new high of 20kts SOG, 23kts STW! It was a bit scary being pitch black, but Nexus held up well and we made good time all night. It's still rainy and cloudy today, but hope springs eternal for better weather tomorrow!
